From Atlantic City to New York City, the "Boardwalk Empire" cast hosted “Prohibition Thursday” on Oct. 27 at Greenhouse, the celebrity hot spot on Varick Street in Manhattan. New Jersey's "Celebrity Magnet" Tom Murro enjoyed Veuve Clicquot cocktails with hosts Michael Pitt “James ‘Jimmy’ Darmody,” and Vincent Piazza “Lucky Luciano.”
There were musical performances by special guests D NICE and Chuck Barrett. Other guests included Celebrity Chef Chris Nirschel, Olympic Boxer Eric Kelly, and Ashlee Simpson. Is Simpson a fan of this Mark Wahlberg-produced series? Well, she is a big “Lucky” fan as she is Piazza’s real-life flame.
At first; however, Simpson was not easily spotted amongst the crowd. “I headed inside Greenhouse where I sat next to and introduced myself to a blonde wearing a black-hooded sweater,” explained Murro. “She said her name was Ashlee and seemed very sweet but skittish, I quickly figured out that she was Ashlee Simpson after she introduced me to the guy I had met a few minutes earlier, her boyfriend, Vincent Piazza.”
Piazza didn’t discuss the show too much, but was more interested in snagging one of Murro’s extra Foundation Fashions Breast Cancer Awareness t-shirts. Although Murro had an extra in his car, he calculated how far he parked combined with the coldness factor and opted to give Piazza one next time he sees him. He wishes he could have given Piazza the shirt off his back, or from his car in this case, as he really enjoyed his company and found him to be quite “cool.”
Not only did he find “Lucky” to be ingratiating, Murro witnessed Williams and Pitt to be just as inviting and appreciative to all of the fans in the packed house. The one who was the least social throughout the event was Simpson herself.
“Ashlee spent the entire 30 minutes they were there looking down, texting, not drinking, and holding her hood to hide her face from the lurking photographers in the room that were just dying for her to reveal her face,” said Murro. “I was not really sure what she was hiding from as everyone huddled around her for protection anyways; it was a bit weird.”
Either way this 1920s-themed evening was a success, as the 1920s show continues to be as well. After already two triumphant seasons, HBO recently announced that "Boardwalk Empire" will be renewed for a third season. The Mark Wahlberg-produced series will air in late 2012. Fans can enjoy yet another season of this Prohibition-era drama. Cheers!
